Mike took some time to do an interview for the site on the final day of The Mike Bibby Basketball Camp, Friday June 21st:
This is the third annual “Mike Bibby Basketball Academy”, which keeps growing every year. The camp is a very reasonably priced camp for a NBA player camp, and its really your camp, its not just your name on it… it even takes place in your old high school! What does this camp mean to you, and do you plan on continuing this?
Mike:
I’ll keep doing it. Its fun. I’m having fun. We’ve got a little hoop for the little kids this year and you know were trying to make it fun for all ages. The first day we do some drills and then its pretty much fun after that, that’s important to me, that they have fun. And if kids can’t afford to come, we’ll help out a little bit so they can come out and have fun.
Your summer is going to be a little shorter than usually this year because of the Kings success, are you pretty booked up? After this camp is done, what else is on your summer agenda? Does being a free agent for the first time affect your usual routine at all?
Mike:
It doesn’t change anything.. I’ve got some photo shoots to do. I’m leaving Monday for the BET awards next week. I’m doing another camp in Sacramento and a then a big Golf tournament in Tahoe. I filmed 'Arliss' when I was in LA for Leno… that was my first time acting.
My summer workouts are the same, I’ve been doing cardio and lifting.. not much shooting or playing yet, I’m trying to get a little bit of rest.
Was this past season the most enjoyable of your career… it would undoubtedly be of your professional career, but how does it stack up with your days as a Wildcat?
Mike:
Its my job now.. that’s the difference. I had fun back then too, but this past season I was more into the crowd, I got more emotional, it was all more around fun.
How do you feel about your increase in popularity? (Appearing on Jay Leno.. The number of people visiting the web site has increased tremendously. There’s also a lot of regular posters conversing on the message board that are curious about this question)
Mike:
You know I like it. I’m having fun with it.. there’s nothing really else to say.. except that I thank god for putting me in this situation… you either like it or you don’t, but I’m enjoying it.
Thanks Mike.. anything else you want to say to the people on the website?
On the Team Dime ESPN Article:
Mike:
The article didn’t really cast us in the right light (at the beginning), we don’t’ start fights. We’re business men.. we don’t make any trouble. We’re not a gang, we’re group of friends who love each other and take care of one another, we look out for each other.
